Exploring the World of Books!

Black History Month Rehearsals

Sound the ‘New Project’ alert!!!

I spent most Saturdays during my early years at the library, drinking in fairy stories, myths and legends, classics, contemporary stories, fantasy, science-fiction and anything else I could lay my hands on. I also wrote stories and poems for my own amusement but it never, ever occurred to me as a child or teenager that I could become a published writer. Malorie Blackman, 2016

Those are the words of Malorie Blackman, renowned black author, former Children’s Laureate (2013-15) and the genius behind bestsellers such as Pig Heart Boy and the Noughts & Crosses series, on her inspiration to become a writer.

Over the past few weeks, the children have been exploring what it takes to write their own book. Our budding young authors have looking at different books written in a variety of styles across numerous genres. They have been introduced to authors such as the inspirational Malorie Blackman and have been finding out what it takes to write – and even illustrate – a book.

Who knows, in a few years time, they could all be topping the Amazon bestseller list! Let’s hope they don’t forget us when they are famous…

Its not too late to join in. The project continues every Friday, 6-8pm at Everyone Active and include individual reading sessions with a tutor.
